Burning Disc Failed : Hardware or Software?

Screenshot of the error Burn Failed Alert
Apparently, few weeks back, I can’t burn any DVD using my built-in SuperDrive burner. It kept showing the “Error code 0×8002006E“, and luckily it did not break the disc, even though the burning process failed. But, this is very annoying because I can’t backup anything to my DVD, such as my collections of Japanese Drama Series, or even my Full Series of Heroes, season 3. However, the drive can read any disc successfully, it just can’t write to DVD as I manage to create CDs from my iTunes
This is such a very bad thing, as CD only accommodate 700Mb, while DVD can loads up to 4.7Gb.
During the process to recover my burner back, I did try the deleting my com.apple.finder.plist (Go to users > your computer name / user name > library > Preferences > com.apple.finder.plist). However, the technique only manage me to burn the DVD only once, then not anymore, even i tried to delete the .plist file again. I even change the type of DVD and from +R to -R, but nothing works. I’m quite pissed off. Then, later, I thought if I try to burn the DVD using a Burning Application, it might works, so then I went to get myself a copy of Roxio Toast Titanium. Being successfully installed the application, I tried to burn the files again. Nope. No. It didn’t work too, and this technique even burnt the DVD out of use. %@#!. When it failed to burn using Finder, the DVD still can be used, but, not anymore when I used Roxio. Purf. Wasted the disc.
Next, I slept for a night, and when I woke up, I get an idea to try to backup my songs using the Native Installed of Ubuntu 8.10, on another partition. Yes, this time, I manage to burn the DVD, even though at the very final process, Ubuntu alert me that it cannot mount the DVD. However, the disc was in a good condition and I can mount it after I reinsert the DVD back into the drive. Fine. Nice. Like nothing happened to the burning process.
So, I came to a conclusion, that this failure may caused by a malfunction of the software, instead of the SuperDrive itself. Maybe, something, or some updates from Apple had change the firmware of the drive. Or, maybe, the drive is broken, but Ubuntu manage to force it to burn the disc previously. For sure, I’m still not able to burn any DVD from my Leopard.
This is sad. Very sad.
So, I would like to ask kindly, to all of you (readers), did you ever prompted with this error? Please leave a comment about how you recover from the error. You have less than 21 days to do so, as on 18th or 19th January, I’m going to send my SARAH (MBP) to Apple Troubleshooter to have a look on this matter
Why on 18th or 19th? Because I’m going for a week camping in Lumut, under PETRONAS, and this is the only time I’m not going to use my MBP. Huk huk.
p.s: Even, to date, I still can’t find an exact solution to this.
UPDATE
I’ve tried burning at slow speed and using different brand, but not working. Purf.

Downloading YouTube Video

- try a different media brand and try to burn at a slower speed
- try to clean the drive itself
- remove the disc from drive and force quit finder

I’m having the same problem. I notice my HD is full… mayeb you have the same problem… maybe there’s not space on the HD for the temporary image… I’m trying to burn 1GB of data and I have almost nothing free on HD so I will tidy up and post again if I have success.

nope, wasn’t it.

Actually, I have 50Gb left. So, giving more space doesn’t help. I’m suspecting the drive itself or its firmware on writing to DVDs, as I can burn my iTunes CDs. Anyway, thanks for trying to figure this problem too. Really appreciate that.
