P.S: Continue from Outward Bound School, Lumut – Day 2

Ok. The night before wasn’t that pleasant. Even though I slept soundly, but the tent’s naked floor hurt my back. Ouch. Now I miss my bed. Hehe. Eventually, I woke up at 5.00am, had my shower at 5.30am, and done with prayer and breakfast stuff at 6.30am.

After breakfast, we started untie all the tents and our cooking instrument. Everything were done in the darkness of the cool and breezing morning. Fuh~ But, no worries, no one was injured. Hehe. We finished the packing within 30 minutes. Haha. A lot faster compare to setting up the tents.

We were supposed to start loading the stuff onto the motherboat around 7.30am, however, some participants broke the camping rules during the night before. They we’re caught red-handed smoking in front of their campsite. Damn. Now, you just wasted my time. Why? The instructors requested us to open our bags to do some spot check incase there some of us hiding cigarettes. No one were excluded, including me, a person who didn’t smoke.

Actually, we’re on the rush to continue the journey, so that we don’t have the difficulty of paddling against the sea current again, like the day before. But, we’re late for 30 minutes or more. Thus, the journey going to be a pain in the ass. Dergh. Screw you rules breaker!

Today, we’re going to finish the journey around the Pangkor Island, about it was about 9 times farther compared to yesterday journey. Haha. OMG! But, everyone was fine to face the challenge. The map below show the extension route that we’re going to get on with kayaking.

The first part of the journey took about 3 hours and we stopped at one end of the island for lunch. During the journey, all of us were hungry and tired. Not to mention the mental torture because, once you saw an end of a beach, you thought that you’re almost done. Unfortunately, you’re not. Hahaha. We were like “Ok, ok. Don’t give mate. We’re almost there.”. But, once your reach to the end of the beach, it was just frustrating because what you can see is just another beach. LOL.

One of us even got seasick, Ms Liana. Pity her, and her kayak mate, Cina, because he was paddling the kayak alone by himself for hours. Pergh. Me? I was lucky because my kayak mate can bear the load of paddling when my right hand wrist gets hurt. Ouch. I had to stop paddling for several times and the muscle injury reduce my power to continue paddling. And, at the same time, we need to observe others to make sure they move within the group and checking up if there are people who capsize or not.

We reach at our pit stop approximately noon. We had our rest and lunch with the food we packed up earlier in the morning. There were Gardinias, Baked Beans, Sausages, Jams, and oranges. Haha. We had lunch like we never ate all those foods. Seriously, in this situation, everything will looks good and taste nice. Hehehe. Finished lunch, we slept on the beach, under the shade of the trees. Huhu. So refreshing.

The journey continued at sometime after 12.20pm. Jumped back into our kayak, heading toward OBS. Everyone gained their energy back to keep on paddling on the sea, yet we didn’t know that bigger challenge is waiting for us. At one point, we stopped and get to raft to each other (rafting = get close to each kayak, and get connected). We were about to cross the Lumut Channel, which packed with huge ships and boats, not to forget tankers. Haha. Furthermore, the tides are getting more fierce and unpredictable.

In order to cross the channel, we need to paddle across the tide at some angle and try not to be parallel to the tide as it can cause us to capsize. The tide was getting bigger and bigger, and I felt like I was at some kind of extreme kayaking activity. Huhu. The channel is not that wide, but, the existence of the tide change the distance and timing. The other side of the channel looks very near, yet it seems very far to get nearer. When I was about to reach OBS, a kayak capsized in front of me. Without wasting time, me and Ringo paddle as fast as we could and all of our exhaustion were gone, because we’re worried the victims will be cast away to far from our main path. The total of the journey took another 3 hours.

After cleaning the kayaks and our tents, everyone were very tired and had a soundly evening nap. Fuh.

Done with the kayaking expedition, we have to practice for our performance during barbeque night, which will be held the next 2 days. Thats all for today. Everyone was tired. Get some sleep, tomorrow we will start with our next expedition. Zzz.
