Should I call or should I send a message?
With nowadays technology and research, we can see everyone is in a race to develop something that suits them, something which benefits their fans, and things that sometimes helps us, and sometimes, is just a wasting of time and resource. If we talk about OS (Operating System), on this second, we can list several on them, such as Mac OS X, Ubuntu and its friends (Linux), OS/2, Solaris, and many more to come (Ops, sorry. Ok-ok, Windows too). Apart from this matter, with the invention of Internet by Levi C. Finch and Robert W. Taylor to connect globally, to address interoperability problems. Thus, this create the term of virtual world, as people can communicate with each other, even they were far apart, from one end, to the other end of the world.
In spite with this invention, Developer around the world starts running their brain on how to make this process on contacting each other is as easy as 1-2-3-A-B-C. They start with emails, then come to an invention of Realtime Messaging processes and this is the kick-start for nowadays messaging application such Yahoo Messanger or AIM. To date, me, personally, has 6 types of system for messaging / online communication ID. I have YM, MSN, AIM, .MobileMe (.Mac), Skype and Gtalk. Each of them has their own speciallity and weakness. Yups, all them were developed by interested people, so, they only compliment those who fans them. Me, as for myself, I used a lot of YM for chatting, Skype for Voice Call, and Gtalk for working purpose.
To work with these three system, I use Yahoo Messenger, Skype and iChat (support for GTalk). Messaging thru YM was really fun on Windows, but not on Mac nor Linux. There were none to date latest application for Linux. Mac does have its own native YM application, but most of the feature were not supported, such as plugins, games and environments. This a drawback which does not affects me. Using iChat for GTalk was such fun, as it was fully supported. Nothing more that chatting till today, as my friends are not using Mac and those who use Mac, don’t really use iChat. Skype is a very import tools in my daily working day, as I can make free calls PC-to-PC as clear as I’m calling them using my Mobile Phone. Oh Skype, love you, muah.
Skype capabalities to stream smooth audio and video is such a must for those who have friends overseas. Nope. Even at office, or only to your housemate. Hehe. You can make a voice conference on Skype, and it is a smooth as you were talking all together at a table. Nice. However, even Skype has the capabalities for video calls, but, to date, it still can’t support video conference. Maybe it is just eating their bandwith too much.
Now, boys and girl out there. What is your online messaging platform / applications? Any feedback about current release? YM for Vista, got any feedback? Tell me. ![]()
p.s : I do have Adium, but, I rarely used it, as I not using MSN and YM at one time. Plus, I save it for bad internet connection, as YM can’t really be relied on.
p.s.s : I am a person, who never know how to use MIRC. Shame on me.
