09 September 2009 • Comments: 5

It has been a week since my upgrade to Snow Leopard and I would like to share my experience poking around with this new Mac OS X. Some of them has been repeatedly reported by other, while some of the refreshment were not focused. So, today I would like to focus on the minor changes but huge improvement made by Apple for Snow Leopard.

On the arrival of Snow Leopard, Apple worked so hard in the pushing the industry to start utilising 64 bit application. Today, System Preferences by default will run in 64 bit architecture and if you want to access any 32 bit app, you will be informed to restart the app in 32 bit.

Next will be the trackpad. In Leopard, 4 fingers multitouch support only available to all unibody Macbook family. However, in Snow Leopard this feature is now has been unlocked and available to all multitouch support Macbook. Yea!

Apple also update its Date & Time feature. Now, you can enable current date along with the time and day. Unlike previous, you can only display day and time.

With the idea of enhancing the security in mind, Apple made some changes to its Security panel.

New build of Mail also built in the Snow Leopard and today it runs on 64 bit architecture. If you launch Mail for the first time, it will ask you to upgrade you previous email database.

Apart from that, Apple also refined their wifi notification icon, which now animate when you are about to get connected. Even its bluetooth is more responsive compare to Leopard.

There are more refreshments and updates made by Apple in Snow Leopard, which I can’t cover within a single post. However, most of them are the refinement for stability, speed and new architecture for processing unit : OpenGL and OpenCL.

Personally, I gained back my 20 Gb hard disk space. Woot!
