When I was a little kid, my brother and I used to create our own kites. From coconut leaves (what is Lidi in English?), if lucky, we’re using bamboo. These are the essential backbone of the kite. Threads from mom’s sewing kit and newspaper or huge plastic bag as the body of the kite.
However, my brother is the best when it comes to getting the kite up into the sky. I will hold the kite, then when he shouted “Lepas!” (released the kite) he ran as fast as he could and pulling the kite up bit by bit.
But nowadays, we’re living far apart. I’m in Miri, while he moves around West Malaysia, configuring 3G towers for telco consumer. He only back at home during weekend, if the boss has no assignment for him.

i never play kite before…
never know the feelings when the kite is flying up there…
you should have a try.
i remember when my daughter, liyana wanted to play the kite. Her father was trying to make the kite fly but the kite didn’t go up eventhough the father tried many-many times.. so liyana suddenly asked her father…
“ayah, mase ayah kecik2 ayah tak main layang-layang ke?”
Well, that’s what she thought, because the father was not able to fly the kite at that time… hehehe..
