Mirco-blogging is not new anymore for internet users, mostly to bloggers and who ever involved with web development. As define by Wikipedia.org:
Micro-blogging is a form of multimedia blogging that allows users to send brief text updates (say, 140 characters or fewer) or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. These messages can be submitted by a variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, email, digital audio or the web.

As quoted above, micro-blogging can be viewed as smaller size of blogging, with shorter text and content, and has higher frequency of updates compare to normal blogging. Usually, this kind of system is used to inform people, rather than explaining things, because the limit of character that can be posted at one time.
This hype, once was dominated by Twitter, now are gaining competitions by Plurk, Pownce (now has been shut down, and the team joined Six Apart) and several others. Not to forget Ping.fm, which rises to be on top of others by providing services to send your micro-post to multiple sites, even to your own blog. This evolution of writing and posting style had introduce to one more concept, called ‘current status’. Famously, you can see this services embedded within Facebook.
Move on to the advantage of using those micro-blogging services, a lot of apps have been develop to help you automatically get the updates from your account, sort of push notification, which everyone loves because you don’t have to refresh the site’s page every time you want to request for any update(s). Don’t you just love it? They ‘send’ the updates to you, automatically.
Back to the title, by subscribing my Twitter or Plurk, you can reach any short update or any of my current status, which not really needed to be posted on my websites. Example, I want to announce something new or important, but only to my selected friends, or subscriber. Isn’t that cool?
Some of the plugins and apps that really helpful:
- Tweetdeck (Adobe AIR Application)
- Twitterfox (Firefox Plugin)
- Tweetr (Adobe AIR Application)
- Snitter (Adobe AIR Application)
- Twhirl (Adobe AIR Application)
- Twitterrific (Mac + iPhone + iPod Touch)
Personally, I’m using Tweetdeck. But, it is up to your choice, every single of them has its own advantage.
